Desi Groove Workshop of IU Groove Club at Indira University
What a magical evening it turned out to be on 16th September’25, when IU’s Groove Club welcomed the brilliant Gauresh Shetkar, Kathak artist and choreographer, to lead Desi Groove. It wasn’t just a workshop; it was a soulful journey through India’s diverse folk traditions, danced and lived in every gesture.
Gauresh brought the stage alive, effortlessly blending the fiery exuberance of Bhangra, the rustic storytelling of Rajasthani folk, and the rhythmic pulse of Lavani. He didn’t stop at steps; he wove in tales, shared the history behind the movements, and revealed the spirit embedded in each form. With every flourish and footwork, students weren’t just learning choreography—they were discovering identity and culture.
Gauresh Shetkar carried himself with such effortless grace that students were left in awe of his passion and presence. His approach transcended mere instruction—he ignited a spark within each participant, fostering a deeper connection to the art form. Through his guidance, students discovered that folk dance is not just about mastering steps; it’s about embracing discipline, celebrating tradition, and expressing freedom. Gauresh’s ability to weave storytelling into movement reminded everyone that dance is a celebration of culture and identity, not just performance. His influence left an indelible mark, inspiring students to dance not only with their feet but with their hearts.
The energy in the room was contagious. Faces lit up with joy, laughter echoed, and applause soared with each perfected move. In those moments, students weren’t just learning—they were belonging.
Desi Groove didn’t just showcase talent; it created memories. It left everyone inspired to dance not just with their feet, but with their hearts. Thanks to Gauresh, and thanks to every student who joined, we were reminded of what dance can do: connect us, move us, and uplift us.
